This iconic spindle frame armchair was designed by industrial and interior architect Davis Allen in 1983. This chair features a solid beech wood frame that is lacquered in a muted sage green with the seat newly upholstered in a textured olive green chenille. It was originally called the "Andover" chair manufactured in Italy by Stendig International and became a staple in high-end corporate and residential interiors. Knoll Studio reissued the chair in 1993 and renamed it "Exeter". This chair is not marked so it is unknown as to whether it is the Andover or Exeter issue.
Allen studied at Brown, Yale and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm prior to a career that spanned over forty years eventually becoming a partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). In 1985, Allen was one of the inaugural inductees into the prestigious Interior Design Hall Of Fame.
This chair is newly upholstered and refinished.
