Antique, 19th century, Egyptian Revival, carved maple armchair with horsehair upholstery is a beautiful example of furniture made during America’s second wave of Egyptian Revival which hit during the 1870’s. Furniture designers sought to bring in motifs from other countries, like Egypt, and combine them with classical forms. This chair combines exquisitely carved Egyptian Sphinx feet with classical, geometric circles on the chair’s back and the fluting of the arms.
Frame is in very good original condition. The seat has new horsehair construction with muslin cover. It can be used as is or COM upholstery included.
