This fantiastic, mid-century modern two-tier end / side table was designed in the 1950s for Singer & Sons by the extremely popular Italian designer Gio Ponti. The newly finished, solid walnut frame features impeccable details that include an inset top and beveled tier edges that rests on four beautifully tapered walnut legs.
This tiered side table has more commonly been attributed to the American designer Bertha Schaefer who designed for Singer & Sons at that time. Singer & Sons however recognized the American people’s love for Italian designed furniture and hired four Italian designers to work with Schaefer on a new collection combining Italian and American modern design. Gio Ponti was one of the four Italian designers to work with Schaefer on this collection. This table is listed in the catalogue and on the Gio Ponti Archive as model no. 2132.
