This Mid-Century Modern 'Floating' top walnut side table was designed by Jens Risom circa 1950s. This occasional side table features a 19" square top that gives the appearance of floating atop the four slightly tapered squared legs. It's a classic Jens Risom construction that was a staple design for many of his tables.
Jens Risom moved to the U.S. in 1939. He met Knoll in the early 1940s and designed a 20 piece collection for the company. In 1946, he designed for himself launching his company Jens Risom Design. His furniture business really took off during the 1950s with the help of an ad campaign shot by photography legend Richard Avedon and the tagline "The answer is Risom."
