This rare pair of Mid-Century Modern benches were produced by the famous Austrian furniture company Thonet in the 1940s. Thonet which was founded in 1850 by Michael Thonet, was the first to develop bentwood furniture and the revolutionary technology “steam bending”. These two-seater benches feature refinished maple bentwood frames and backs and seats newly upholstered in soft azure blue bouclé. They are a unique seating option for dining, entryway and beyond.
These benches are a variation of the armed bench model number 3008-SU18-BU6. Auction records from Sotheby’s show that the Thonet bench without armrests was custom ordered by a library in Austria during the 1940s.
Newly upholstered and refinished.
