This Mid-Century Modern side chair was designed by interior and furniture designer Bertha Schaefer and manufactured by M. Singer & Sons, circa 1950's. This outstanding chair has an organic sculptural walnut frame with beautifully curved lines. The seat and back rest are newly upholstered in a wonderful pink ombre woven chenille. The result is a fantastic accent, desk or dining chair that is a standout design element.

Bertha Schaefer originally had her own firm, founded in 1924, which generated Bauhaus-inspired designs for both residences and businesses. In 1952 Schaefer's work was included in MoMA's exhibition "Good Design". The same year she won the prestigious MoMA Design Award. From 1950 through 1961 Schaefer designed furniture for M. Singer and Sons Furniture Company.  During her time there she created an Italianate collection called Singer Modern with four Italian designers including Gio Ponti, Carlo Mollino, Ico Parisi, and Carlo de Carli. 

This chair is newly upholstered and refinished.
