This is a remarkable set of six "543 Broadway" chairs designed by Gaetano Pesce for Bernini (Italy, 1993). These iconic postmodern chairs embody the radical, avant-garde ethos of the legendary architect and designer. The chairs feature brilliant molded seats and backrests made from hand-cast epoxy resin blending translucent forest greens, deep teals, and amber-gold swirls. The hand-cast process ensures that each chair is it's own unique design. The sleek stainless steel frames feature shock-absorbing, spring feet with rubber padding that mimics human movement allowing a deliberate responsive wobble. Pesce famously stated this was engineered to “give a sense of insecurity... because there is insecurity in our reality, in our economy and in our health. When you sit, you do not feel totally secure—that is like the reality of life." This highly collectible, discontinued series embodies the master designer's philosophy of constant motion and emotional architecture. "Des. Gaetano Pesce Bernini Italy" is stamped directly into the underside of the seats.
Very good condition.
