This set of six, mid-century modern, side dining "Ion" chairs designed by the visonary American designer, artist, and inventor, Gideon Kramer features chrome-plated steel 4 prong bases with fiberglass shells that are newly upholstered in lavender linen exposing the rust fiberglass on the back for contrast. The Ion chair, famous for its futuristic appearance, was created for the Century 21 World's Fair in Seattle and used in the newly opened Space Needle Restaurant. Kramer’s designs focus on the use of new materials, and a relationship between design and function.
The upholstered fiberglass seat and steel base work together to create a very attractive modern silhouette, one that is also extremely comfortable. Interiors magazine described the chair as "spine pampering". These chairs remain in very high-demand having been sold at Christie's auction house and held in the collections of museums like the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Denver Kirland Fine Art and Decorative Art Museum.
