This pair of Mid-Century Modern Steel Frame dressers 'model 4016' were designed by American designer George Nelson circa 1955 and produced by Herman Miller. Both dressers feature powder white, welded, steel frames, hard white plastic tops that were advertised as both "alcohol and cigarette proof", and three red lacquered wooden drawers with a natural finish on the interior. This color combination was most likely a custom order. The cabinet hardware is chrome-plated. The drawer height is 7.25".
The dressers are from Nelson's "Steel Frame" collection. The collection was designed to be "superbly well-suited for today's small, multi-purpose rooms as well as durable, decorative, and functional, which was a must for all Herman Miller furniture. The original manufacturer's mark remains intact.
The third Steel Frame cabinet shown is listed separately here.
Overall good condition with some wear as shown.
