This compact Mid-Century Modern Steel Frame credenza cabinet 'model 4036' was designed by American designer George Nelson circa 1955 and produced by Herman Miller. The cabinet features a powder white, welded, steel frame, a hard white plastic top that was advertised as both "alcohol and cigarette proof", a red lacquered wooden drawer with a natural finish on the interior, and two black masonite sliding doors for additional hidden storage. This color combination was most likely a custom order. The cabinet hardware is chrome-plated.
This cabinet is from Nelson's "Steel Frame" collection. The collection was designed to be "superbly well-suited for today's small, multi-purpose rooms as well as durable, decorative, and functional, which was a must for all Herman Miller furniture. The original manufacturer's mark remains intact inside of the top drawer.
Overall good condition with some wear as shown.
The two Steel Frame dressers shown are listed separately here.
